There are simple solutions to be found in nature. When we learn our nutrition from nature, we find that whole foods contain an elegant symphony of nutrients that go beyond our basic nutrition textbooks. Eating whole foods nourishes the body so that it can regulate and repair itself.
Americans eat foods that have been stripped of nutrient content. The most commonly eaten vegetables in America are catsup, French fries and onion rings, which are not whole foods and have been heavily processed. Our epidemic proportions of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer’s, and more are often created our highly refined diet.
American health care is nearing a meltdown point. We have, far, the world’s most expensive health care system, costing us $2.2 trillion per year, or 16% of the gross domestic product, which is bankrupting huge corporations, like General Motors, and threatens to bankrupt our nation. We cannot buy good health while continuing to ignore the basic laws of nature: “you are what you eat”, and “our way of life is related to our way of death”.
Weight loss is a major imperative in America. Over two thirds of Americans are overweight, while half of these people are medically obese. It is easy to lose weight on a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, which are primarily fiber and water. It is difficult to lose weight on the standard diet high in calorie dense foods.
Diabetes has become a huge problem in American health care. Eating too much and the wrong foods is a major contributor to our diabetes epidemic.
Cancer has escalated from an obscure disease in 1900 to the number two cause of death in 2019. There are abundant studies showing that a diet rich in whole fruits and vegetables can dramatically lower the risk for cancer.
